First block

September 16, 2010

Geez. . . today was a super packed day.

If you haven’t noticed or let me point out, I am super busy. Especially since the beautiful, Pepper came into our lives. It’s funny that it took us 10yrs to get ready for our 2nd child and after having her we can’t imagine our lives without her. She’s a little over 4mos now – 14lbs, pretty much left her preemie days behind her.

If you don’t know – I’m still working full time. I haven’t really taken any maternity leave. . at least officially. I work half time at home and the other half at work. My biggest helper is my dad. Currently, he’s retired and after Pepper was born – he wanted to help. He comes over everyday and helps me with her.

Overall, Pepper rarely gets just one adult. She has a whole village to help her which I’m super grateful for.

Since I’m working and taking care of Pepper. . . and the family – I think I really don’t have time anymore. I feel like I rarely have time for my fish hobby anymore. Often I think moms get lost. They sacrifice so much for the family and rarely take time for themselves. I guess, I think it’s not selfish to set aside some time for yourself. Put some of your time back to you. But you don’t have to take my word on it. . .

I’ve decide to look into quilting. . . .

There’s a couple people in my life that have influenced me towards this.

One of them is Karla, Brad’s mom. Over the past 11yrs, she’s made us a couple different quilts. I think the whole family pretty much has one. Lucas has this awesome house/village one that’s on his bed. Pepper has a Easter/pink heart one on her crib. And we have this rainbow explosions on our bed (summer quilt).

Another person is my friend Amber, which I met through the fish hobby. She made me this awesome Mei Tai.

One of her last blog entries was about how she put together this quilt together for herself and her hubby in a week. (Yeah nuts! but very challenged and extremely motivated) I started looking around on the internets about quilting. Then I thought. . .”I bet they have classes.” So I googled: quilting classes salt lake

I hit on Pipers Quilts and signed up.

Tonight was the first night of the class. . and I think I did pretty well. Here’s my first block:

Check out the seams, baby!!!

Can you tell I have a thing for owls. . . . .
