It’s all squares so pretty easy right? Sure, not when the seams don’t match up. But I’m also not pressing my seams open. Sorry, Elizabeth – can’t go against the ole’s school teachings of quilting techniques. But here’s a shot of the blocks in their pretty piles:
And here’s the block completed only 18 more to go. . .
So I have enough fabric left over that I thought I could cut them into 5×5 charms for my first meeting with the Modern Quilt Guild. What’s that?
“The Modern Quilt Guild is a community of quilt guilds across the country. The online community of modern quilters is thriving and this guild grew out of a desire to also have us meet in person.”
So last night I packed my charms and spinach articoke dip with chips and headed to a strangers house to meet women who quilt. Talk about out of the comfort zone. . seeing how I’ve only quilted for about 2mos. Brad says, I just dive in and don’t hold back. But I love meeting new ppl and forming new friends so that’s always a good motivation for me to drive out.
We had to bring “charms” set, if you don’t know what a charm is – well it’s just a 5×5 square fabric. A set includes 10 charms. Since I had some much left over from my Christmas Snapshot quilt – I thought I’d bring themed charms. . .all christmas
“These are a few of my favorite things” wrapped up in string!
Bring as many and you get as many back. . so I brought 10 packs and here’s what I got back. . organized in colors of course:
Pinks & Reds:
Browns & Blacks:
Orange & Yellows:
Greens (by far the most):
Reminds me of the TMBG- “Birdhouse in your soul”
“Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch
Who watches over you
Make a little birdhouse in your soul
Not to put too fine a point on it
Say I’m the only bee in your bonnet
Make a little birdhouse in your soul”
What’s my plans with the charms? Most of them will go into the Subway quilt. . . haha more of those damn squares!
