Did you know that quilting is a dangerous hobby?

Yup got burned by the iron last night while ironing my blocks down.

Every got injured while quilting? Or has a sewing machine ever attacked you?

I usually don’t blog about my work but I don’t think my assistant would care about this story.

One day a nice package of fabric came in the office for me and she was like, “You got a big delivery.” And I told her it wasn’t work related at all – it’s just a load of awesome fabrics. And I asked her if she sews? And she responded, “No, when I was little I was playing with my mom’s sewing machine and stuck my finger where the needle drops down and pressed on the pedal” And the needle of course went through her finger a couple times and from that day she hasn’t come near a sewing machine.

After she told me that story, I watch where my fingers are when I’m sewing all the time.

When I was a teenager I sewed through my finger. The needle broke off at the surface of my nail. My dad pulled the remaining part of the needle out with tweezers. I’ve cut a chunk of skin off my finger with a rotary blade. The burns are countless. I consider these minor injuries the physical cost of the hobby. I do think quilter should be up-to-date on their tetanus shot.

I’m super glad I’ve never sewed my finger. I only prick myself on occasion. Oh and I get hard core callus’ from sewing…

Been there, done that and so has my daughter! My daughter went through her nail all the way to the other side of her finger. I just went through the nail a bit. OUCH! It hurt! I have also had a few burns but nothing major. I hope your hand is better soon!
