Stash attack!

So it’s a new year and I’m thinking I have to be a little more bitchy and less easy going. . . wha?!?! Yeah I’m pretty relaxed when it comes to cleaning my house. . .I usually don’t do it til I either lose something or I have company coming over (and lately I haven’t had anyone coming over).

But I’m kind of tired of the mess, ya know? Like I need to crack the whip out and get all the stuff organized and in it’s place.

So most of the family was back to their regularly schedule program today except for me and Pepper. I took the approach of lets not try to gang-bust all the mess in one day. . . that’s just ridiculous. Baby steps. So first thing is to organize my massive fabric stash!!!

Organizing stash

Do you clean like me? It’s gets really freakin’ messy before it gets better. . . yeah but it wasn’t that bad.

I love the new year. . . you can go to pretty much all the major stores and they’re having some crzy ass sale on bins. I snatched these big clear bins up at the Lowes.

I was able to put all my WIPs (work in progress) into one bin and as I was putting them in I wrote them down. I want to get to the point where I’m just working on one project and finish it all the way through. . yeah basically not more WIPs. Insane right? Going by the list I have about 13+ WIPs. . . not bad. . . I think only (2) are quilts. . . I think. . .

WIPs

Speaking of WIPs. . . did I mention I’m hella behind on my quilting bees? Yeah I suck ass. . . here’s what I’m working on for my 4th quarter group for 4×5, whatta ya think?

4x5 block

  1. That’s my cleaning style. I can’t stand it, but I just can’t seem to help myself. It’s good to know I’m not the only one with this problem. I love your goal of no more WIPs. I’ve been trying to finish mine up in the last year or so and it’s taken a while but I’m slowly getting there!

  2. Yeah….sounds familiar! I consider myself an event cleaner–I need a reason. My husband is always saying, ” Can we invite someone over do we have a reason to clean?” I’m trying to get better!

  3. Love the organisation! Slightly envious of your stash! The block looks great :)

  4. I’ve been trying to get into the habit of having someone over at least once a week, even if its just for a quick cup of tea. It’s the only thing that keeps me even vaguely on top of tidying!

  5. Lookin good! Hey, where did that Swoon pattern come from. I have your swoon pattern. Did you buy it twice?

  6. Good work, you! You may inspire me…what am I saying! My fabric is in two IKEA storage systems, bins and wine baskets. Trouble is I need to organize further, into colour or type or something. Or not.

  7. LOL!!! I clean exactly like you. Also, I have to have some good music going too. House guest come in 2 weeks, and there is a tornado of fabric in the room.

    Happy New year!

  8. You’re off to a great start! I, too, want to rein in the WIPs this year!

  9. Didn’t you know it’s the Year of Organization so you are right on board!!

  10. Your post made me giggle – it’s amazing how in January we all start cleaning, de cluttering and organising! I did exactly the same as you when I cam home from work this evening and sorted all my scraps into neat little bags! (Unfortunately not boxes as still a bit slow on increasing my fabric stash – I must try to shop harder!!)

  11. well done! it is a serious pain in the bum to organize fabric like that! bravo. i don’t yet have your motivation for that- but i did clear out a closet this morning!

  12. Yeah, sounds like me. I tend to half ass do things and continue more half done projects, don’t know why. I have 30 UFO’s as of right now! I saw you at WIP. 2 goals this year: get better at FMQ and knock down some of my UFO’s.

  13. I just started out the New Year reorganizing too. I still need to find a place for my WIPs. I need to make a list too, of WIPs and future projects, before I forget what I wanted to make with the fabric I buy.

  14. Oh yes! Company is the best motivator for cleaning! Exactly my style too.

  15. Yum, I dig those 4×5 blocks, even if they’re late, they look great! And I really like the idea of a bin just for unfinished projects with a list, I might just borrow that idea :)

  16. I’m lucky…I married a guy who cleaned the various apartments he lived in during his college years twice each..once when he moved in and again when he moved out so he doesn’t care much when the house gets cleaned. And I’m stealing your idea of keeping a WIP list..at least it might keep me from being surprised when I unearth another one from my stash.

  17. I so want cubby organizers for my craft room. I so can’t afford them :( They are on my goal list of things to buy with money and amazon gift cards that I earn online though. First comes laptops.
I told my husband the same thing—I need to stop working on this and that and stay on task on one project until it’s done. It won’t ever happen, but I am trying.
I can’t exclusively finish the quilt I am working on and not work on anything else. The reason is because I can’t just sit in front of my sewing machine day in and day out.
I bring smaller things like crocheting and such in to the living room to work on while I am on the computer, watching tv, and even to take in the car when I am running others to appointments.

  18. it always feels so good to organize… it is always short lived for me though…
