Virtual Quilting Bee 2013

Make time for stress relief

June 13, 2013

Well hello!  I know it’s been a long time since I’ve checked in with the y’all. . . do you miss me?  It’s only been 6 weeks since my last blog entry. . . freak!

Things have been really hectic in my life.  I’ve accepted a new position at work and I’ve hit the ground running.  At the same time, I’m trying to be a good wife, mom, daughter, and treasurer. . . yeah I’ve gone to the buffet of life and my plate is full!

This week, I finally decided to get my shit together and sew.  Sewing is a great stress reliever for me and I thought trying to put it in a little every night really helps me keep my shit together.  (going postal is not an option)

Remember the Virtual Quilting Bee? Yeah I started pulling my fabric in my color combo to catch up. . . I was only 5 blocks behind. . ha!!

Blocks 1 thru 7

Above is block 1 thru 7 and I’m loving how it’s turning out.  The bee goes to the end of October and I’m really excited to see the future blocks.  It really nice to just knock something out so quick.

Blocks 1 thru 3

Above is block 1 thru 3 and they were very easy to put together!  Since this is a sampler quilt – I’m trying to go scrappy on it.  I’m not too concerned that the reds or yellows are in the same tone. . the background and the borders will pull my sampler quilt together.  I have other sampler blocks from the 4×5 modern Quilt Bee that I’ll but putting in this quilt (the challenge is those blocks are 12×12 and these are 8×8)  I’m aiming for a queen size quilt.

Blocks 3 thru 6

Above are block 3 thru 6.  I think I’ll have to redo Block #6 . . . (if you notice it’s a tad bigger than the other blocks and I didn’t notice that til I put them all together ugh)  It gives me practice on inset seams anyway cause that kind of broke my brain.

Block 7

Above is block # 7.  I did a little fussy cutting for the center.  I love those damn owls!

I’m going to work on my WIPs next and see if I can’t wrap those up by the end of the year. . . I think I only have 20+ (ha!)  I’m also working on a quilt-along. . can’t wait to get that done to show y’all.

Next week, I’ll be doing a webinar as the treasurer of the Modern Quilt Guild.  The webinar is about setting up and maintaining finances for your guild ~ oh fun stuff I tell you!  If you’re in the leadership of your guild and want to register go to the big tent site for more info.

Can I get the info on where and when to find that webinar? I’m the treasurer of our (very new!) MQG chapter and I asked our Presidebt about this but she said she hasn’t seen anything about it on the site. Thanks!
