Vintage Quilt Revival Block Along

We’re half way through now!!! Week 5 we’re working on the Rolling Squares pg 30 and Red Cross pg 38.

The Rolling Squares has a very traditional block in it – Square in a Square and I really enjoyed making that one:

There’s a couple tips for Red Cross block I’d like to give y’all! After you’re done with each template A and B and you’re getting ready to attach them together.

  • Leave the paper on (it helps stabilize the sections)
  • Line right sides together leaving a little dog tail on the end (shown below):

  • Sew on the a scant 1/4 inch

  • Cut off the dogtail and rip the paper off. Press seams open and you’re done!

Hope that helps!!! Okay the winner of this week is the lovely Mrs. Julie of Quilty Sewing!  She’s doing all her block in Acacia by Tula Pink.  I really love seeing her blocks each week.  Congrats Julie!!!

  1. I won?! So excited! Thank you!! I am having a lot of fun with the Block Along! Learning some great skills, too. Thanks, Amy for putting this together and your kind comments.

  2. I was moving right along with this project, then came to a screeching halt with the paper pieced blocks. I had no idea the rest of the blocks were paper pieced. I’ve watched the videos, I understand the process, I can even make a paper pieced look OK, but it’s all work and no fun. :(
I’m going to tackle one of the blocks tonight. I’ve procrastinated long enough, wish me luck!

  3. Amy, love your color combo. Very non-common!

  4. Hi, can you please delete my first linkup photo labelled Artkat in NZ. I managed to get some better pictures but couldn’t work out how to replace it with a new picture
