Sanrio shutdown

So I think I blogged almost everyday last week. . . wow that’s kind of amazing. I blame that I had something to show like every night. This week is kind of crzy (meaning no sewing) so I haven’t really had time to blog.

Well my HK is finally done. .

So as a blogger, my plans were to hit the local Sanrio store in the mall and get an awesome picture of the quilt in the store or in front of the store. . .

Today, I’ve got the quilt in hand and walked into the mall.

I went to where the store was and it was replaced by a big name wireless store. Maybe it moved, so I turned and asked a mall worker where it moved to. “It’s been out of business for like 2yrs.” What!?!? This shows you how much I go to the mall.

Hmm. . what to do?

Hey, the Macy’s has a furniture section . . my quilt on fancy room furniture with spot lighting? sure!

Oh lets get a bed actionshot. . .

Here’s a close up of the loopy flowers that Kayli did, she’s awesome at quilting!

What’s the plans for the quilt? Well, it’s for my lil’ girl Pepper. Her current blankie is so tattered and she’s chewed on all the corners. Blankie = pacifier. If she doesn’t have it, she cries and cries. I’m hoping to slowly ween her over the HK and then I can fix the blankie and maybe it will get put away for my grandkids or something.

Blocks. . blocks. . blocks. .

It’s funny, it feels like I have a list of blocks to do and so little time.

Friday night, I took a little nap after work and then the hubby headed off to his poker night and I worked on the Hello Kitty quilt til it was done. What does that mean? Oh just staying up til 3am, crzy right? But it’s done and I love how it turned out:

Hk

Now I have to figure out how to quilt it. . any suggestions?

If you don’t know me, I’ve got a loud mouth and I’m such a complainer. I’m in a local bee and Rachel asked us to do the Interlocking Seasons block by Ms Parfait Cafe. I’ve got to admit one of the hardest block I’ve had to do and I’m still not happy with how the center block. It’s hard because I want to make something for someone and make it the best I can.

Rachels block

I’m also making a couple classic log cabin blocks, only got one done:

Kind of girly huh? The next one will be more manly promise.

HK Progress

Ah dang, I left HK alone for a week or else I’d be done with the top this week. So now she’s got a hot bod:

Hk progress

I think I may need to change my way of thinking and be like my good bud, Kati. She seems to work through a project til its done. But I also have WIPs (work in progress) that I need to get done too. . . bleh. I think I need to a sewing clone.

In other news, did you see that New York Block Quilt Along??

First off, what the heck is a Quilt Along? It where a group of talented folks show other peeps that are interested in learning their techniques on how to make a quilt block or quilt.

The New York Beauty Quilt along is all about paper piecing. What’s paper piecing, I would describe it as driving on the opposite side of the road but with sewing. You almost have to think of making each block backwards. But the results are A M A Z I N G! Check out Kati’s mini quilt if you don’t believe me:

New York Beauty Mini Quilt 1

We will be working with 10 New York Beauty blocks, and you can get a preview of the blocks here. Each block instruction makes one 8″ x 8″ block (as shown in the graphics); you can either assemble 4 of the same block to make one large 15.5″ x 15.5″ block (as pictured above), or you can mix and match to make something beautiful!

Here are the approximate fabric requirements if you are planning on making all ten 8″ x 8″ blocks:

- 10 fat eighths for main fabrics (or 5 fat quarters or scrap fabric)
- 1-1/2 yards background fabric

Sew Sweetness

And here is the schedule for the block tutorials:

March 5 – Kim from My Go-Go Life {Block 0}
March 12 – Sara from Sew Sweetness {Block 5}
March 19 – Megan from Canoe Ridge Creations (Block 1}
March 26 – Kati from From the Blue Chair {Block 8}
April 2 – Jeni from In Color Order {Block 7}
April 9 – Amy from Sukie Don’t You Know Who I Am? {Block 6}
April 16 – Katy from The Littlest Thistle {Block 2}
April 23 – Lee from Freshly Pieced {Block 4}
April 30 – Amy from Amy Lou Who {Block 3}
May 7 – Lindsay from Lindsay Sews {Block 9}

We’ll be sharing fabric choices and help along the way! (the group is over 100 members already!)

If you’re scared of paper piecing, this is a great way to practice and you’ll have tons of support. Challenge yourself! Grab the button and start picking out your fabric.

Some many things so little time

Ah another Wednesday and here’s what I got done.

I made a bit more progress on HK’s face, she’s got a nose and a chin! I’ve decided if you’re doing a pixelated quilt – have other items in the wings to work on because it’s boring and tedious kind of quilt.

HK Process Pic Actionshot 2

The other day, Kati dropped off a very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, awesome gift!!! I love the heck out of it and I’m thinking of replacing my purse to carry it everyday!! A jane market bag made out of Washi fabric:

Thanks Kati! I love it!!!!

I’m still working on another mini for the modern mini challenge. Yeah I did the unspeakable – I cut into my rare Denyse Schmidt fabric. . the Katie Jump Rope and Flea Market Fancy. . Hope Valley. . and some of her new lines that can still be found at Jo’s. I don’t know if you have any out of print fabric but it almost pains me to cut it up, like you can almost hear the fabric screaming. But I reassured myself quick because I’m making something for myself to put on my sewing wall. Treat yourself! How are ya’ doing with your mini?

Modern Mini Challenge

You know that saying you’re spread thin. . . well I can’t help it! I got the new Summer Love line from Art Gallery and like a bolt of lightening I got hit with inspiration. I’m working on paper piecing this block together. Have ya’ll done paper piecing? It’s kind of confusing to start but the results are amazing! Here’s what I got done last night:

Can’t wait to cut up some more fabric!!!

How are you doing on your WIPs? I seem to be adding more to my list, eek!!

HK QAL – Shutdown

Well if you read my last post regarding contacting the folks of Sanrio about permission on using their character, I got the response back and it’s not what I wanted to hear:

“Our characters are the foundation of everything we do at Sanrio. They play a crucial role in the Sanrio experience which is why our characters are protected by numerous Copyright and Trademark registrations worldwide. With that said, please note that Sanrio’s character artwork, names, images, graphics, text and trade names, are the sole property of Sanrio Co., Ltd. Copying, reproduction, distribution and/or republication are not allowed without Sanrio’s consent.

Documenting the creation of the quilt online and showing a picture of the finished product is fine. However, I ask that you reconsider your plans to release that pattern to the public to avoid possible infringement against Sanrio’s intellectual property rights.”

Is there anyway around this? I have a handful of folks that are really looking forward to this QAL.

“In addition to posting photos of your finished product, you can mention to your fans that they could be inspired to re-create their own version but the act of distributing patterns or “how-to” instructions would be problematic.

The other option is for you to apply for a license agreement to distribute the patterns/instructions but that would involved royalty payments be made to Sanrio and other financial requirements”

So I’ve taken down HK page. . . it’s a sad day on the blog.

Eyes. . .progress. . .

She can see now. . isn’t that great! She might could have a chin soon:

Progress. . .

A good buddy of mine brought to my attention that I should ck with Sanrio regarding the QAL – it is after all a licensed character. Hopefully Sanrio gives me the thumbs up. . .we’ll see.

Forehead

Well I pushed my WIPs to the side and I’m busy working on the Hello Kitty quilt so we can start the QAL (quilt along).

Here’s what I have so far, it’s her forehead:

Hello Kitty Forehead

I’m loving how scrappy this will be! I used mostly my stash for this quilt.

I’ll be doing a complete solid Hello Kitty for the quilt along. Yes, by the end of the QAL, I’ll have (2) Hello Kitty quilts.

When will I start this…..debatable. I was thinking at the beginning of Feb but there’s just too much shit going on and I don’t know if I’ll have everything ready in the next 5 days – so I was thinking shooting for March. Are you still down for the QAL? Here’s the official button:

My Button

<a href=”http://sukie.mt-wudan.com/?page_id=3230″ title=”HelloKitty QAL”> <img src=”http://sukie.mt-wudan.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/6766012499_a90091ef2f_m.jpg” width=”200″ height=”200″ alt=”My Button” style=”border:none;” /></a>

Hello Kitty Quilt . . . . QAL?

Since I was a young girl, knee high to some kind of hay/grass. . I’ve always, always loved Hello Kitty!

Hello Kitty QAL

And now that I’m quilting I thought why not do a pixelated Hello Kitty quilt. . . why not do a quilt along too?

So you’ve all been warned a quilt along is coming soon but I must finish the quilt first to see if it’s even worthy of one.

If it is – I hope ya’ll join in and have fun!!!
